How to Renew a 9G Visa in the Philippines

Renewing a 9G visa in the Philippines is a structured process that requires careful attention to documentation and adherence to timelines. The 9G visa, also known as the Pre-Arranged Employment Visa, allows foreign nationals to work legally in the Philippines. To ensure continuous legal employment and stay, it’s essential to follow the renewal procedures meticulously.

1. Understand the Renewal Timeline

It’s advisable to initiate the renewal process at least two months before your current 9G visa expires. This timeframe allows for the processing of necessary documents and any unforeseen delays.

2. Gather Required Documents

Prepare the following documents for your renewal application:

  • Joint Letter Request: A letter addressed to the Commissioner of the Bureau of Immigration (BI), jointly signed by you and your employer, requesting the renewal of your 9G visa.

  • Consolidated General Application Form (CGAF): A duly accomplished CGAF for non-immigrant visa renewal.

  • Passport: Original passport with a photocopy of the bio-data page and the page showing the latest visa implementation.

  • Alien Certificate of Registration Identity Card (ACR I-Card): Original ACR I-Card with a photocopy.

  • Alien Employment Permit (AEP): A valid AEP issued by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE). Ensure that your AEP is renewed or valid for the duration of the visa renewal.

  • Employer’s Documents:

    • Latest General Information Sheet (GIS) from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
    • Mayor’s Permit or Business Permit.
    • Latest Income Tax Return (ITR) with proof of payment.
  • Notarized Certification of Number of Employees: A certification from your employer indicating the number of Filipino and foreign employees.

  • Bureau of Immigration Clearance Certificate: A clearance certificate obtained from the BI.

3. Submit the Renewal Application

Follow these steps to submit your renewal application:

  1. Pre-Screening: Submit your documents for pre-screening at the Central Receiving Unit (CRU) of the BI Main Office or at authorized BI offices.

  2. Payment of Fees: Proceed to the Cashier Section to pay the required fees. The fees vary depending on the duration of the visa renewal and the applicant’s status.

  3. Submission of Official Receipt: Submit a copy of the official receipt to the designated window or officer.

  4. Biometrics Capture: If required, proceed to the Image and Fingerprint Capturing Section for biometrics. Note that for visa extension applications, the biometric data previously captured during the visa conversion shall be used in the printing of the renewed ACR I-Card. However, applicants aged ten (10) years and below shall have their image and fingerprint captured every extension of visa. Applicants aged eleven (11) years and above shall have their image and fingerprint captured every after five (5) years.

  5. Hearing or Interview: Attend the scheduled hearing or interview, if required.

4. Monitor the Application Status

Regularly check the BI website or contact their office to monitor the status of your application. Once approved, you will be notified to proceed with the visa implementation.

5. Visa Implementation and ACR I-Card Issuance

After approval:

  • Visa Implementation: Submit your passport for visa implementation, where the renewed visa will be stamped.

  • ACR I-Card: If applicable, claim your renewed ACR I-Card. The ACR I-Card serves as your identification card in the Philippines and is mandatory for foreign nationals holding a 9G visa.

Important Considerations

  • Maintain Legal Status: Ensure that your current visa does not expire during the renewal process to avoid penalties or legal issues.

  • Accuracy of Information: Double-check all submitted documents for accuracy and completeness to prevent delays.

  • Consultation: If you are uncertain about any part of the renewal process, consider consulting with an immigration lawyer or specialist to assist you.

By adhering to these steps and ensuring all requirements are met, you can successfully renew your 9G visa and continue your employment in the Philippines without interruption.
